Position: COACH (SESSIONAL WORKER)

Position: Coach (sessional worker)

Organisation: Steel Warriors

Location: Across London, generally at one of the Steel Warriors gyms, or in schools or community settings nearby. You may be asked to attend Head Office in Brixton occasionally.

Hours: Flexible, ad hoc, ‘as required’ hours, often known as a ‘zero-hours contract’. Steel Warriors are under no obligation to offer you work, and you are under no obligation to accept work that is offered.

Salary: £22.75 plus £2.75 holiday pay per hour, totalling £25.50 per hour. There will be no pay for travel time or other activities not agreed in advance.

About Us:

Steel Warriors is a sport for good charity that melts down knives taken off the streets and recycles the steel into outdoor street gyms. We use the sport of calisthenics to transform the lives of young people affected by crime, violence and social exclusion, giving them the skills and confidence they need to create positive futures.

Our vision is to build a UK-wide network of gyms, a street workout movement, that not only empowers young people to realise their passions and pursue their goals, but also fosters stronger, closer and more loving communities.

Key Responsibilities:

● Plan and deliver engaging calisthenics sessions tailored to the needs and abilities of the participants. This will generally be young people aged 11 to 24 years, however will occasionally include the wider public as part of our community classes.

● Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that promotes teamwork, discipline and personal growth.

● Act as a mentor, supporting young people in setting and achieving fitness and personal development goals.

● Collaborate with other staff to develop and deliver youth-focused programmes and initiatives.

● Contribute to Steel Warriors wider organisational work and ambitions as an engaged team member.

● Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and safeguarding policies.

● Monitor participant progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage continued participation.

● Gather data on attendance, engagement and impact as required and contribute towards our impact and communications strategies (e.g. creating social media content or documenting case studies).

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

A passion for calisthenics and some experience as a coach or fitness trainer.

● A recognised fitness qualification (e.g. Level 2 or Level 3 in Personal Training, or equivalent) or a willingness to work towards one

● Experience working with young people, ideally in a coaching, mentoring or youth work capacity.

● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with participants and colleagues.

● Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to promoting the welfare of young people.

● Good organisational skills, with the ability to plan and deliver structured training sessions.

● First Aid Certification (or willingness to complete one)

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

● Experience using social media or other platforms to promote programmes and engage with the community.
