Position: Content Creator and Social Media Officer
Organisation: Steel Warriors
Location: Hybrid working in London, with office space in Lambeth and a requirement to attend Steel Warriors gyms.
Hours: 11.25 hours per week, equivalent to 1.5 days or 0.3 FTE, to be worked flexibly.
Duration: Permanent position (with three month probationary period)
Salary: £30,000 per year pro rata, so an actual annual salary of £9,000 per year.
About Us:
Steel Warriors is a sport for good charity that melts down knives taken off the streets and recycles the steel into outdoor street gyms. We use the sport of calisthenics to transform the lives of young people affected by crime, violence and social exclusion, giving them the skills and confidence they need to create positive futures.
Our vision is to build a UK-wide network of gyms, a street workout movement, that not only empowers young people to realise their passions and pursue their goals, but also fosters stronger, closer and more loving communities.
The Role:
We’re looking for a creative and driven Content Creator and Social Media Officer. You’ll work closely with our team to manage and grow our digital presence, creating engaging content across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape digital storytelling for a cause that makes a real impact. Alongside the social media aspect, this role will give you the chance to gain insight into other areas of a charity - including operations, business development, partnership working, and service delivery.
Key tasks:
● Daily posting and scheduling across platforms (liking, commenting, and engaging with followers & responding to messages)
● Video editing and post- production
● Attending classes and events for content capture and storytelling
● Working with wider team to understand impact data needed for funders, including documenting personal stories of progress
● Liaising with wider team to improve visibility of our community classes and targeted programmes, including our work around female engagement as a priority area
● Liaising directly with coaches to gather content (photos, videos, testimonials) from classes and sessions
● Producing a forward planning social media calendar aligned with the social strategy
● Creating and applying on-brand graphics, templates, and layouts for consistency
● Monitoring trends in short-form content and adapting strategies accordingly
● Managing and organising a content library (raw footage, photos, edited clips) for easy use across platforms
● Creating content and copy aligned with campaigns
● Reporting and analytics
● Supporting organisation of events
● Optimising funnel for selling merchandise
● Aligning branding with Steel Warriors mission
● Collaborate with followers or participants to feature user-generated content
● Stay up to date with and adhere to online safeguarding policies
Person Specification
Essential skills and experience:
● 1–2 years’ experience in content creation and social media management (professional, freelance, or demonstrable portfolio)
● Track record of successfully using Instagram and TikTok, and knowledge of trends in short-form video content
● Strong storytelling and copywriting skills, able to bring impact to life through digital channels
● Confidence in video editing and post-production for social media (Reels, TikTok, Shorts)
● Graphic design knowledge and experience (e.g. Canva, Adobe Express, or Adobe Creative Suite) to create on-brand assets and layouts
● Ability to build strong relationships with coaches, participants, and colleagues to gather and shape content
● Highly organised and proactive, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
● Enthusiasm for learning and adapting in a fast-paced, creative environment
● Interest in sport, fitness, or community engagement as tools for positive change
Desirable skills and experience:
● Experience in developing and executing a social media content plan
● Familiarity with analytics and reporting to measure impact
● Experience working or volunteering in a charity, youth, or community-focused setting
● Awareness of safeguarding practices and responsible online communication
Expectations:
● Engage in weekly 1:1 check-ins with your line manager
● Attend monthly team meeting at Lambeth office
● Attendance at agreed weekly classes at Steel Warriors gyms to capture content
● Hours to be spread across the week to cover daily engagement and posting
● To work with your line manager on time management, calendar use, attendance, prioritising tasks and managing your workload
● Participate in monthly all-team meetings and learning and development sessions
● Autonomous and independent but can also work well in team settings
